SCREENING and EVENT HISTORY

8th annual Attack of the 50 foot reels

Best of the attack - Echo Park Film Center August 21, 2008

7th annual Attack of the 50 foot reels

BEST of the ATTACK!   17 of our favorite Super 8 50 foot reels at the ECHO PARK FILM CENTER FEB 22, 2007 8PM

Flicker Chapel Hill, Nov 13, 2006. Their 61st screening packed over 100 people into the Cat's Cradle. It was a beautiful coincidence that Flicker was happening the one night I was in Chapel Hill. My fav film of the evening was from Flicker Richmond - "The Peritoneal Surfaces are Smooth and Glistening" by Walker Allen.

super 8 workshop - unc chapel hill. Nov. 13.  Around 25 students attended alumnus Norwood Cheek's 2 hour super 8 filmmaking workshop held in Swain Hall. "We're bringing filmmaking on film back to UNC. If you can learn to tell a story on one roll of super 8 film, that will translate into creating cohesive films on all other mediums and formats." Norwood and Kodak donated 2 super 8 cameras to the lab for students to check out. The UNC film lab now has 7 super 8 cameras for their students. Kodak also donated super 8 film to further kickstart the program. UNC also has a student run video production group - STV, that is dedicated to giving all students a chance to get experience behind and in front of the camera.

cucalorus, wilmington nc. nov 8-11,  2006  Norwood's film "cold?" was screened. Many new films, docs at this great festival.  My fav pic of the fest:  two headed cow

September 15-23, 2006 ATTACK of the 50 Foot Reels at the Atlantic Film Festival in Halifax, NS, CANADA. 12 local artists who had never made a super 8 film before took the challenge and the results were awesome. Many thanks to AFCOOP. Screening was Sept.22, 7pm  at the Nova Scotia Community College screening room = we jammed it full!

October 9th, 2005 RIP Kodachrome at the ECHO  with special music guests: Cardinal Family Singers       rip kodachrome                 Kodachrome 40 news

September 15-25, 2005 at the Atlantic Film Festival in Halifax, NS, CANADA - this was a great Super 8 ATTACK event. 9 local filmmakers took the challenge. It started with my super 8 workshop on
atlantic fest
9-16, and they made their films in 2 days, then while the films were being processed in Toronto at Exclusive, the filmmakers worked on their original soundtracks. The screening was 9-22 at the Park Lane #4. It was a great event and the films were incredible. More proof that all you need is a roll of super 8, a camera and an idea.

The film amounts to a story with no individual heroes, set in the post-heroic land with the masses as the main active principle. It is an atmospheric piece dealing with a gradual metamorphosis of the formidable peremptory entity of a swollen metropolis, reaching out with its mechanical industrial tentacles in every direction, expanding outwardly as well as inwardly, invading and subjugating its denizens.
Naomi Uman "hand eye coordination" 10 min. 16mm Naomi Uman lives in Los Angeles and Mexico City where she makes films at a small table, always accompanied by a tiny dog.
Hand Eye Coordination-this film tells the story of its own making.
Tom Griffin "deli very" 3 min. super 8
Austin - stop-frame, Norman McClaren style, hilarious with people and puppets!
Tara Pinley  "committed" 5 min. 16mm "Committed" is a USC 16mm undergraduate film made in the Spring of 2001 with a 2-person crew.  Tara Pinley was the writer,
director, and sound designer; and Christina Ferguson was the cinematographer, editor, and producer.  The film was made on a shoe-string
budget with incredibly talented actors Renata Green-Gaber and Joe Knight.
Synopsis:  Committed is a dark comedy in which one woman finds that when
it comes to killing her husband, once just isn't enough!
Gregory McDonald  "employee orientation" 3 min. 8mm "An employee orients himself to his co-workers at the company party.  Original 8mm footage shot in 1967".
